Fernvale Rural Fire Brigade

Just a heads up for those heading out to ride the BVRT this weekend, looks like there will be a bit of smoke around

** Heads up #Fernvale_Area **

This weekend( 2nd-4th August) will see a number of larger Hazard Reduction Burns being undertaken in the Somerset region as training for our local Rural Fire Brigades and prepare our people for another fire season.

-One on England Creek Rd ( Near Fernvale)

-One in the Wivenhoe Pocket area will between Deletraz and Macdonalds Rd.

-Larsens Road Coominya

-Moore Linville

They are part of a major exercise involving around 40 vehicles, aircraft and fire fighters from many brigades through out our region.

Residents may be affected by smoke and are advised to close windows and doors, and keep respiratory medication close by if needed.

Smoke may decrease visibility on roads so motorists are advised to drive with caution and to conditions.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy

An American article about the benefits to the community when a rail trail is located near by their town 😍 well worth a read

Trails are wonderful places to recreate and play ... but they are SO much more.

SUPPORT THE NORTHERN RIVERS RAIL TRAIL CAMPAIGN FROM CASINO TO MURWILLUMBAH

Help support another rail trail to be completed and opened for all to enjoy

It is important to preserve the rail corridor as a community asset for any potential future commuter use such as solar/electric commuter vehicles, light rail, mono rail etc. A rail trail will create a beautiful pathway between Casino and Murwillumbah, winding through world heritage areas and some of... ... Friends of Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Inc

Expansion of the beautiful planting done by Pete's Hobby Nursery due to a generous donation 💕 one way to show your love for the BVRT

Wonderful to see the overstorey trees being planted alongside the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail by Pete's Hobby Nursery in Lowood, in the first stage of creating a dry vine forest ecosystem - with flora species akin to those found in pockets of remnant Pine Mountain & Rosewood Dry Vine Scrub! 🌿

This extension of Pete's native plant gardens along the Trail is along the northern end of the BVRT from Lowood, heading towards Clarendon, & is envisaged to expand even further north along the Trail over the next few years.

Thanks to the generous donation of $16,000 to Pete's Hobby Nursery a while back by a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous to the general public, we are seeing the restoration of variants of lost, rare scrub & forest ecosystems along our very own Rail Trail by Pete & his volunteers. What a wonderful legacy!

Special thanks to Lyle Paul for helping to arrange the display for our local historical society

Just arrived from 1898! Out There Cycling proprietors, Josie and David have generously provided a display for our July MARKET. On show there'll be a Stearns Chainless bicycle, a conveyance that was manufactured in New York before the turn of the century by Edward Carl Stearns. The liberated lady cyclist of the day was encouraged to dress in attire to suit the activity and cut a fashionable form while getting exercise, travelling and socialising. Mr Stearns was a whizz at promoting his product. Advertising men performed many stunts, poems were recited, songs written and sung, all advertising bicycles in general and the Yellow Fellow model in particular. Slogans:
· "Ride a 'Stearns' and be content."
· "Where'er one turns, He finds a Stearns."
· "Watch the sunlight glisten on those orange rims."
· "The way to do it is to do it on a 'Stearns.'"
· "A Stearns once tried, A Stearns you'll ride."
· "Style - Speed - Strength."
· "Rough roads made smooth."
made the "Yellow Fellow" a household name. Drop into the Saturday morning market, see the Stearns Chainless, say g'day to Jessie who'll be wearing the outfit of the smart cyclist of that era .... and support your local museum.
